Governors - Who's Who?

Mrs S Cunningham - Parent Governor

(Co-Chair of Governors)

Committees:  Pupils & Strategic, Standards and Chair of Personnel & Finance

Curriculum Governor

Responsible for:  Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB); Pupil Premium, Complaints

I am very excited and proud to have recently joined the Governing body at Bagthorpe.  I am mum to 2 daughters, one of which goes to Bagthorpe and the other will also attend the school when she is old enough.

I've worked for a high street bank for almost 18 years and during the past 7 years with SME's including MAT's within the education sector.  A huge part of my current role is working with local businesses in the community providing support for recovery and growth post pandemic.

I am passionate about the local community and keen to play a part in ensuring our children get the best start in their learning journey.

Mrs L Dakers - Co-opted Governor

(Co-Chair of Governors)

Committees:  Pupils & Strategic and Personnel & Finance.

Curriculum Governor

Responsible for Assessment, Head Teacher Appraisal, Pupil Records and Governor Training.

I feel very privileged to be given the opportunity to be a governor at Bagthorpe School and am very excited to get started. Being a Secondary School teacher I have a great understanding of the education system and a real passion for educating and developing children. I believe this will help me work to support the school in many different areas. I have worked as a teacher specialising in Computing for over 12 years and it is something I thoroughly enjoy. I love to inspire children and help enable them to achieve their full potential. There’s nothing better than seeing their beaming faces on results day.

Mrs R Leader - Co-opted Governor

Committees:  Personnel & Finance and Chair of Pupils & Strategic Development.

Curriculum Governor

Has responsibility for Child Protection & Safeguarding including LAC & PLAC; Head Teacher Appraisal & Prevent Duty.

"I have worked for Derbyshire Constabulary in the control room for 14 years.  I am used to dealing with sensitive and stressful situations in a high pressured environment.  I can stay calm and am level headed keeping an unbiased opinion.  I have a real passion for education and believe all children should have a solid foundation to build on for their future.  I am able to bring many of my workplace skills including safeguarding children and dealing with outside agencies to my role.  I enjoy working in a team and helping to get the best out of the school for the pupils and community.  It is also a pleasure to be part of a team that can help to support the Head Teacher in the challenges that arise."

Mrs K Jones - Co-opted Governor

Committees:   Pupils & Strategic Development, Personnel & Finance.

Curriculum Governor

Has responsibility for Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), Health and Safety (Records); Pupil Records.

"I feel immensely privileged to be part of Bagthorpe, where I took up my position as governor in 2010.  My two daughters both came to the school and were so happy being part of the family feel of the school and its core values.   I have been a nursery nurse for over 13 years at a private day nursery, which is a job I love - but not as much as my most important job, which is being a mum!  As a governor I always try to focus on the individual child's development because I know how important this is.  I love being a governor at Bagthorpe and I hope that I make a difference - even if it's a small part!"

Ms I Cook - Parent Governor

Committees:  Personnel & Finance and Pupils & Strategic

Curriculum Governor

Responsible for Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB); Health & Safety; QA for Head Teacher Appraisal

As a parent of two children currently attending Bagthorpe, I am excited and proud to work as part of the Governing Body to create the best possible outcomes for our children and the school community with the skills I bring from industry.

During the day I lead the Quality and HSE teams for a large chemical company but in the evenings and on the weekends, I juggle the rewards and challenges of a busy family life.  I know that for many children the routine, security and learning opportunities found in a well managed school environment provides a foundation from which they can grow, and also on which they can rely during difficult times.

Ms S Sayer - Associate Governor

I have been a governor for over 15 years with a variety of different schools throughout Nottinghamshire.  I have a background in HR and Governance and currently work as a Governance Professional for Transform Trust.  I have two children who are now at University and I enjoy watching sport, particularly ice hockey and rugby.

Mrs R Edmond - Staff Governor

Committees:  TBC

I have loved being a teacher for nearly a decade and thoroughly enjoy being part of the Bagthorpe family. I particularly enjoy being able to support our pupils in developing a love for learning and helping them to get the most out of their time at Bagthorpe. My experience enables me to understand and resolve complex situations that extend beyond teaching. I am looking forward to being able to combine my professional skills and passion for making a difference to the lives of the children at Bagthorpe in a supportive role within the Governing body.

Mr D Walton - Head Teacher Governor

Committees:  Personnel & Finance, Pupils & Strategic Development and Standards.

"Since 1993, I have taught at four different Nottinghamshire schools and been Head Teacher at Bagthorpe since 2007.  The best thing about being a teacher, is working with children, but I also get to work with lots of adults too!  Our Governing Body is a strong team, drawn from many different walks of life, with a wide range of skills and experience.  We enjoy working together and have a strong, corporate view of where we are going and what we want to achieve for the children.  Our Governors help me to do a better job, by supporting me with some of the more difficult parts of my work, but at the same time challenging me to raise standards and to make our school even better for the children."
