Extended Schools

The information below gives information about Extended Services

Extended Services is about providing a range of services and activities that take place outside of the school day that meet the needs and interests of the whole community.  By 2010, all children, their families and the wider community should have access to a variety of extended services in or through their school.

The 5 main areas of Extended Services are:
   • Community access to computers/internet, sports and arts facilities and adult learning.

   • Childcare of high quality, available 8am to 6pm, all year round, where there is a demand.
   • A varied menu of activities, such as; homework clubs, sports clubs, music tuition, dance,
    drama, crafts and special interests.

   • Swift and easy referral to a range of specialist support services such as family support and
intensive behaviour support as well as information about and access to these services.

   • Parenting support, family learning sessions, parents’ information sessions and parenting
   programmes.

Where will I be able to access these services?

The services will be available through schools.  These services may be provided on the school site or the school will be able to direct you to the service you require locally or provide you with the relevant information.   However teachers and teaching assistants will not run all of these services, other organisations such as local sports clubs, parenting organisations and childminders will also be involved in running and providing these services.
